Waco, Texas (Sports Network) - Amath M'Baye and Steven Pledger scored 20
points apiece for the Sooners as Oklahoma defeated the Baylor Bears, 74-71, in
a Big 12 Conference showdown at the Ferrell Center.
M'Baye was 9-of-12 from the field with seven rebounds and two blocks for
Oklahoma (14-5, 5-2 Big 12), which got its seventh win in nine games. Pledger
also dished out five assists. Romero Osby added 11 points off 5-of-7 shooting
from the floor with eight rebounds.
Pierre Jackson led all scorers with 22 points for Baylor (14-6, 5-2), which
had its three-game winning streak snapped. Jackson was just 3-of-12 from long-
range. Isaiah Austin was the game's top performer, scoring 17 points while
pulling down a career-high 21 rebounds, which is the most ever by a Bear in
Big 12 competition.
The Sooners carried a 38-26 lead into halftime after shooting 53.3 percent
from the field and holding Baylor to just 31.3 percent.
The Bears battled back tough in the second half and outscored Oklahoma 45-36,
despite allowing the Sooners to shoot 52.0 percent from the field. After
getting the game back within three points, Baylor had two opportunities to tie
the game in the final seconds but Jackson missed a 3-pointer with three
seconds left and then Brady Heslip grabbed the offensive rebound and threw up
a shot which was also off the mark.
The Bears outrebounded the Sooners, 47-34, but shot just 37.3 percent from the
floor while allowing Oklahoma to shoot 52.7 percent.
