Knoxville, TN (Sports Network) - Jordan McCrae finished with a career-high 34
points, on 13-of-18 shooting from the floor and perfect 6-of-6 from 3-point
distance, as the Tennessee Volunteers downed the LSU Tigers, 82-72, in an SEC
battle at Thompson-Boling Arena.
For the Vols (15-10, 7-6 SEC), Trae Golden added 20 points and eight assists,
and Jarnell Stokes posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Johnny O'Bryant III led the Tigers (15-9, 6-7) with 24 points and eight
rebounds before fouling out, while Anthony Hickey finished with 14 points and
Malik Morgan chipped in with 12.
Tennessee was hot to start the contest, knocking down 59.3 percent from the
floor, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, as the hosts went into halftime
leading, 40-30. LSU made 46.4 percent from the field through the first 20
minutes of action.
After intermission the Vols continued to drain their shots, making 55 percent
of their field goal attempts and 6-of-9 on their tries from beyond the 3-point
line. The Tigers shot 44.8 percent from the field but could not make up their
first half deficit, as the Vols held on for their fourth straight victory.
Tennessee tied a school record for 3-point field goal percentage in a game
shooting 66.7 (10-of-15) from beyond the arc. McRae's individual effort also
tied the school record set for most 3-point makes without a miss set by JuJuan
Smith in 2008 versus Arkansas.
