Burke helps Michigan edge rival MSU
Ann Arbor, MI (Sports Network) - Trey Burke racked up 21 points with eight assists and notched two of his five steals in the final 30 seconds to help No. 4 Michigan hold off ninth-ranked Michigan State, 58-57, on Sunday at Crisler Center.
With 26 seconds left, Burke took the ball from Keith Appling and threw down a two-handed jam, which turned out to be the deciding basket. He then deflected a pass and came up with the game-ending steal on Michigan State's final possession to secure the win.
Michigan (24-5, 11-5 Big Ten), which was coming off an inexcusable loss to conference dweller Penn State on Wednesday, received 11 points from Mitch McGary and eight apiece from Glenn Robinson III and Caris LeVert in the triumph.
Adreian Payne totaled 17 points and 12 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to help the Spartans (22-7, 11-5) avoid their third straight defeat. Gary Harris added 16 points in the setback, which helped conference-leading Indiana clinch at least a share of the Big Ten title.
