Fort Wayne, IN (Sports Network) - Lawrence Alexander scored a game-high 20 points and Marshall Bjorklund finished with a double-double as the North Dakota State Bison held off the IUPU-Fort Wayne Mastodons, 58-54, in a Summit League affair at Gates Sports Center.
Bjorklund had 14 points and 10 rebounds for North Dakota State (19-6, 10-3 Summit) which has won three of its last four games.
For IPFW (10-16, 3-9) Frank Gaines scored 16 points and Luis Jacobo put in 14 as the Mastodons lost for the fifth time in the last six games.
North Dakota State held a slim 26-25 lead at the break by shooting an even 40 percent from the floor while holding IPFW to just nine field goals.
The Mastodons had a chance to win late in the contest as the Bison hit just 1-of-4 free throws in the final 10 seconds. However IPFW missed its final two shots and also had a costly turnover with three seconds remaining.
The game featured six ties and 12 lead changes. North Dakota State had a 20-3 edge in second chance points.
