Dewycolorintheline wins Yonkers Trot

Yonkers, NY (Sports Network) - Dewycolorintheline took advantage of other horses' problems to win Saturday's 59th Yonkers Trot at Yonkers Raceway. The $450,000 mile race begins the 2013 Trotting Triple Crown.

Trained and driven by co-owner Ray Schnittker, Dewycolorintheline was able to avoid the other seven 3-year-olds who were breaking stride during the race. The colt, sent off as the 7-1 fourth choice, took the lead during the first half-mile.

Dewycolorintheline was challenged by Fico up the backstretch the final time but turned back the 6-1 third pick and trotted home to post a two-length victory over Fico with 27-1 longshot Lauderdale finsishing third.

Finishing fourth was 7-10 favorite Dontyouforgetit followed by Cantab Abs, 2-1 second pick Creampuff Macdaddy and Celebrity Stimulus. Boffin was scratched after coming up lame before the race.

The time for the Yonkers Trot was 1:57 3/5.

Dewycolorintheline earned $225,000 with the win, his first of the year. The colt has banked $326,457 with four wins in 16 starts.

Last week in one of the elimination heats he finished fourth, three lengths behind Creampuff Macdaddy. Two weeks ago, he was third in the Stanley Dancer Memorial at The Meadowlands.

Dewycolorintheline returned $16.20, $7.10 and $6.00. Fico paid $6.10 and $5.60, and Lauderdale paid $18.20 to show.

The Trotting Triple Crown will continue next Saturday with the Hambletonian at The Meadowlands and the Kentucky Futurity at The Red Mile on Sunday, Oct. 6.

The last year that harness racing had a Trotting Triple Crown winner was in 2006 with Glidemaster.
