Pet Rock early Messenger Stakes favorite
Yonkers, NY (Sports Network) - Local winner Pet Rock has been installed as the 3-1 morning line favorite for Saturday's $415,820 Messenger Stakes at Yonkers Raceway, the final jewel of the Pacing Triple Crown. The 3-year-old colt will take on seven rivals in the mile pace.
Returning to Yonkers, Pet Rock won the Art Rooney Pace in June. The colt will be driven by George Brennan from the seven-hole in the Messenger. Pet Rock won the Rooney Pace in a stakes and track record for his age group of 1:51. The 3- year-old pacer has won seven of 18 starts this year for $690,563.
The 4-1 second pick is Hillbilly Hanover who is winless this year in 19 starts. The gelding will start from the inside post with Jim Morrill Jr. in the sulky. Trained by Ron Burke, Hillbilly Hanover has been able to bank $236,503 in 2012 with four seconds and four thirds.
