Hambletonian to highlight Meadowlands harness meet
East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - The $1.5 million Hambletonian will be the centerpiece during the 81-date harness meet at The Meadowlands Racetrack. The 2011 meeting will conclude on Saturday, August 20.
Joining the Hambletonian, for three-year-old trotters, will be the $1 million Meadowlands Pace on Saturday, July 16. The Meadowlands Pace is a major stakes for three-year-old colts and geldings.
Hambletonian Day, Saturday, August 6, will also include the $750,000 Hambletonian Oaks for three-year-old trotting fillies along with the Lady Liberty, Merrie Annabelle, Mistletoe Shalee, Nat Ray, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Peter Haughton Memorial, U.S. Pacing Championship and Perretti Farms Matchmaker.
Stakes races that will be part of the Meadowlands Pace program include the Stanley Dancer Memorial and Tarport Hap.
The Meadowlands will go on a break from live racing during the month of April.
During the bulk of the schedule, live racing will be conducted Thursday- Saturday evenings. Matinee cards will be held on Presidents' Day, Monday, February 21 and Mother's Day, Sunday, May 8.
Following the Hambletonian, The Meadowlands will have live racing on Fridays and Saturdays only through the end of the meet.
