Birmingham to host 2013 Mid-Am; Forest Creek asks out

Far Hills, NJ (Sports Network) - The 2013 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship will be held at the Country Club of Birmingham in Alabama, rather than North Carolina's Forest Creek Golf Club.

The United States Golf Association announced Thursday that Forest Creek asked not to host the event in 2013 because of its "conversion to a member- controlled club and the potential impact on championship preparations."

The release said that the club will leave open the possibility of hosting the USGA event in another year.

Birmingham has hosted nine Alabama State Amateurs and is a sectional qualifying site for the 2012 U.S. Junior Amateur.

"The Country Club of Birmingham is honored to continue its long-standing tradition of supporting amateur golf by extending our invitation to the United States Golf Association to host the 2013 Mid-Amateur Championship," said Richard Anthony, the championship's general chairman. "This is the first national event CCB has hosted in its 114-year history, and we see it as a great privilege and responsibility."

The 2013 Mid-Amateur Championship will be conducted October 5-10. It will use the West and East courses of the Alabama club for stroke play, while match play will be held on the West course.
