Eastern Kentucky names Damron offensive coordinator

Richmond, KY (Sports Network) - Eastern Kentucky University promoted Dane Damron to offensive coordinator, head football coach Dean Hood announced Thursday.

Damon has served as the Ohio Valley Conference program's special teams coordinator for the last two seasons.

"Coach Damron brings positive energy to the field every day," Hood said. "Offense is his cup of tea. He has been the offensive coordinator or the head coach calling the offensive plays for numerous other teams throughout his career. I'm very happy with the direction the EKU program is headed and I'm also thrilled that Dane accepted this position."

Damron, a native of Grayson, Ky., played collegiately at Georgetown College from 1990-94. He began his coaching career at EKU in 1995, serving two years as a graduate assistant and wide receivers coach under Roy Kidd.

After serving as an assistant at Morehead State, he moved to the high school ranks for nine years. He then served three years as Kentucky Christian University's head football coach, including the school's first-ever varsity football season in 2008.

EKU, which finished 6-5 last season, will kick off its 2011 season at Kansas State on Sept. 3.
