New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyle Kelm and Matt Tiby recorded double- doubles to help the Milwaukee Panthers to a 67-54 decision over the Alabama State Hornets in a matchup that was part of the Tulane Classic at Devlin Fieldhouse.
Kelm finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds while Tiby tallied 14 points, 11 boards and five assists for the Panthers (10-4) as they snapped a two-game losing slide. Austin Arians played from wire-to-wire and chipped in 17 points for Milwaukee.
Jamel Waters recorded a double-double of his own with 14 points and 10 assists for Alabama State (4-5). Waters went just 4-of-15 from the floor but committed only one turnover in the Hornets' second straight setback.
The Panthers knocked down 58.3 percent of their shots from the floor including 5-of-10 from behind the 3-point line in the opening 20 minutes of the contest. Alabama State went into the intermission trailing, 42-30, after it went 1-of-6 from beyond the arc in the first half.
Both sides struggled on the offensive end after the break. The Hornets converted only 30 percent of their field goal tries and held Milwaukee to just 26.7 percent efficiency from the floor. However, the Panthers drained 7-of-10 tries at the charity stripe in the second period to keep Alabama State at bay.
Milwaukee dominated the interior battle to outscore the Hornets, 26-16, in the paint and win the rebounding battle, 40-33.
