Kent, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Nick Kellogg scored a team-high 19 points to propel the Ohio Bobcats to a 59-53 victory over the Kent State Golden Flashes in Mid-American Conference play at the MAC Center.
Kellogg shot 6-of-14 from the floor and grabbed six rebounds for the Bobcats (11-3, 1-0 MAC). T.J. Hall netted seven points and led the team with nine rebounds.
Devareaux Manley scored a team-high 13 points for Kent State (9-5, 0-1) on just 2-10 shooting from the floor. Mark Henniger contributed 12 points and seven rebounds.
Ohio shot just 35.5 percent from the floor in the first half, including 2- of-10 from 3-point range, but still took a 26-19 lead into the half thanks to 26.7 percent shooting by Kent State in the period.
The Bobcats hit on 44 percent of their shots in the second half and, despite being outscored 34-33, managed to hang on for the win. Kent State converted 30 percent of its shots in the second frame.
Kent State finished with a dismal 18.2 shooting percentage from beyond the arc.
Ohio won the turnover battle, 10-12, in the contest, and managed to double up the Golden Flashes in points off turnovers, 14-7. Ohio also won the battle in the paint, outscoring the Golden Flashes 24-18.
