NCAA Game Summary - DePaul at Illinois State

(Sunday, December 22nd)

Final Score: Illinois State 69, DePaul 64

Normal, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Daishon Knight scored 16 points and pulled down six rebounds as the Illinois State Redbirds slipped by the DePaul Blue Demons, 69-64, in non-conference play at Redbird Arena.

Also scoring in double figures for the Redbirds (7-5) were Zach Lofton and Nick Zeisloft with 14 and 11 points, respectively, although the duo combined to shoot a mere 5-of-25 from the floor, including 2-of-15 behind the 3-point line as the team won for the sixth time in seven outings.

DePaul (7-5) was paced by Billy Garrett and his game-high 18 points, followed by Brandon Young with 17 and seven boards, while Durrell McDonald chipped in 10 points off the bench. Sandi Marcius posted just four points in 23 minutes of action, but still made an impact with a game-high 11 rebounds as the team had a three-game win streak snapped.

Illinois State had issues from the floor in the first half, shooting just 37.5 percent overall and 2-of-13 behind the 3-point line, but the team made up for it with 11-of-14 at the free-throw line in order to produce a 37-34 advantage at the break.

Early in the second half the Blue Demons stormed back, taking a seven-point lead just minutes into the frame, yet even with a dismal 8-of-32 showing from the floor in the period Illinois State still played well enough to squeeze out the win.

In addition to being forced into 16 turnovers, which the Redbirds traded in for 17 points, DePaul was also outscored at the charity stripe by a 24-10 margin.
