Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Jordan Clarke tallied a double-double with 15 points and 18 rebounds to help lead the Drake Bulldogs past the Rice Owls, 77-66, in the consolation round of the DirecTV Classic at Anaheim Convention Center Arena.
Ben Sheets hit four three-pointers en route to a team-high 18 points for the Bulldogs (2-2), who will take on Xavier in Sunday's fifth-place game. Seth VanDeest logged 12 points and eight boards, Chris Hines netted 11 points, and Gary Ricks chipped in 10 points.
For Rice (1-4), Tamir Jackson scored a game-high 25 points on 9-of-17 from the floor, while Julian DeBose had 12 points and nine rebounds. The Owls will play Drexel in the seventh-place game on Sunday.
With the help of strong three-point shooting in the opening half (6-of-14), Drake took a 34-30 lead into intermission. Rice connected on less than 40 percent of its field goals in the first half.
Rice took a 52-48 lead with 13:37 left in the game on an Austin Ramljak three- pointer, but from there the Bulldogs ripped off a 22-8 run over the next nine minutes to take a double-digit lead and they never looked back.
Drake won the rebounding battle, 36-28. Both teams took good care of the basketball, which each team coughing it up just eight times.
