The teams played a tight game through the first 20 minutes of action, and thanks to a 9-of-9 performance at the free-throw line the Wildcats were able to post a 44-39 advantage at the break.
Wayns missed more than eight minutes early in the second half after he was whistled for two personal fouls within the first 90 seconds of the period and that allowed Louisville to battle back and take control. The 'Cats ended up shooting just 2-of-10 behind the three-point line in the period as they tried to claw their way back into contention, but at the same time the Cardinals were converting 20-of-26 at the charity stripe to seal the deal.
Villanova finished the night making just 5-of-19 from three-point range.
