(Wednesday, February 20)
Final Score: Northeastern 66, James Madison 64
Boston, MA (Sports Network) - David Walker finished with 11 points, including the game-winning bucket with just three seconds remaining, as the Northeastern Huskies outlasted the James Madison Dukes, 66-64, in a Colonial Athletic Association bout at Matthews Arena.
Quincy Ford tallied 14 points and seven rebounds for Northeastern (18-10, 13-3 CAA), which clinched at least a share of its first-ever CAA regular season title. Reggie Spencer chipped in 13 points for the home team.
For JMU (15-13, 9-6), A.J. Davis came off the bench to score 21 points, while Charles Cooke had 10 points and seven rebounds. Devon Moore (12 points, four assists) and Alioune Diouf (11 points) were also impressive for the Dukes, who had won their previous two contests.
Northeastern outshot JMU from the field in the first half, 48 percent to 39.1 percent, as it took a 32-26 lead into intermission.
The Dukes took a lead early in the second half behind a 10-0 run, and the teams exchanged several leads over the course of the period. With Northeastern leading by three with under 20 seconds to play, Davis drained a game-tying 3- pointer only for Walker to connect on the game-winning basket on Northeastern's final possession. With three seconds remaining, JMU completed a full-court inbound pass to Davis, who missed a 3-point attempt, but Andre Nation corralled the offensive rebound and converted the putback, but the bucket was ruled to have come after the buzzer.
JMU lost despite owning advantages in rebounding (29-22), points in the paint (26-18) and second chance points (19-2).
