Final Score: Colorado State 73, Nevada 69
Reno, NV (Sports Network) - Greg Smith registered a double-double of 28 points and 12 rebounds to lead the charge as the Colorado State Rams came from behind to defeat the Nevada Wolf Pack, 73-69, in a Mountain West Conference duel at the Lawlor Events Center.
Colton Iverson also recorded a double-double for Colorado State (19-4, 6-2 MWC) with 10 points and 16 boards. Dorian Green and Wes Eikmeier tallied 11 points apiece as the Rams collected their fourth win in a row.
Nevada (11-11, 2-6) was unable to hang on despite a spectacular, 31-point showing by Malik Story, who finished 11-of-17 from the field and 7-of-11 from beyond the arc. Deonte Burton added 11 points in the Wolf Pack's third- straight setback.
Story made his first four field goal attempts to spark an early Nevada run that put the hosts ahead, 20-8, with 12:06 left before the intermission. Despite shooting just 34.5 percent from the floor in the first half, the Rams managed to narrow the deficit and went into the intermission trailing, 33-31.
Colorado State heated up after the break to hit on 50 percent of its shots from the floor while the Wolf Pack made 40.7 percent of their field goal tries. Story sank a free throw attempt with just over two minutes remaining in regulation to even the score at 67, but Iverson put in a layup with only 40 seconds before the buzzer to put the Rams on top for good. Eikmeier sank all four of his attempts at the charity stripe in the final minute to clinch the road win for Colorado State.
The Rams held a sizeable, 46-30, advantage in the rebounding battle and outscored Nevada, 36-22, in the paint to survive their trip to Reno.
