Arizona F Perry charged with felony assault
Tucson, AZ (Sports Network) - Jesse Perry, who started all 35 games at forward for Arizona this past season, was charged with a felony in connection with an alleged assault on a former romantic acquaintance.
The 22-year-old senior turned himself in Friday night, Tucson police said in a news release.
Perry was charged with one count of domestic violence aggravated assault, a felony, after police learned the alleged victim had had a previous romantic relationship with him.
An adult female who was taken to an area hospital for treatment of various injuries, then released, told medical staff she had been hurt in an assault.
Officers investigating the incident learned she had been at Perry's apartment late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning, at which point a verbal argument took place.
At some point, according to police, Perry began to physically assault the victim, who sustained several injuries but was able to leave with friends.
The Arizona athletics department assisted in locating Perry and getting him to turn himself in, police said.
Perry, of St. Louis, Missouri, finished third on the team in scoring this past season with 12.2 points per game and second in rebounds at 7.5.
