GAME NOTES: Inclement weather in the Southeast won't stop Samford from visiting Wofford at Benjamin Johnson Arena on Saturday for a Southern Conference matchup.
Samford had its game against Furman on Thursday postponed until next Monday due to the weather as well as delayed traffic patterns throughout Atlanta. The switch kept the Bulldogs from playing another game on the road, where they are just 1-11 on the season and have not won since Dec. 20 at Jacksonville.
Despite their road struggles though, the Bulldogs have won three of their last four, including a 62-59 win over Elon last Saturday when they survived Sebastian Koch's potential game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Tim Williams tallied a double-double consisting of 19 points and 10 rebounds and was later named the conference Player of the Week. Raijon Kelly netted 11 points off the bench, while Tyler Hood tallied 10 points for the victors.
Leading the team in both scoring and rebounding, Tim Williams is putting up 17.1 ppg and 7.3 rpg. Isaiah Williams is second on the team with his 12.3 ppg, while Kelly (9.8 ppg) and Hood (9.1 ppg) are other key pieces in coach Bennie Seltzer's offense.
Tim Williams is at the top of the SoCon by making 60.4 percent of his shots from the floor. The 6-foot-8 sophomore also has 32 blocks on the season.
Wofford has also had a week's rest after upending Furman, 76-52, on the road last Saturday. It was the third straight win for the Terriers, who have not won four in a row since the 2011-12 campaign.
Karl Cochran eclipsed the 20-point mark for the third straight game in the latest triumph, totaling a team-high 22 points. Spencer Collins chipped in with 20 points and Eric Garcia scored 10 as Wofford improved its SoCon record to 5-3.
Wofford enters this game ranked first in the Southern Conference in scoring defense (65.1 ppg), but last in scoring offense (66.5 ppg). The Terriers are led by Cochran (14.6 ppg) and he paces the squad with 40 3-pointers. Collins (13.9 ppg) and Lee Skinner (10.9 ppg, 8.5 rpg) round out the double-digit scorers for the squad, which is hitting an effective 35.8 percent from behind the arc.
These teams met back on Jan. 2, and Wofford pulled out a 71-61 victory at Pete Hanna Center in the conference opener for both. Cochran made six 3-pointers in that one and finished with 27 points, and the way the Terriers have been stroking the deep ball lately, it would not be surprising to see them sweep the season series.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Wofford 72, Samford 60
