GAME NOTES: Both the BYU Cougars and the San Diego Toreros will put their three-game win streaks on the line as they clash in a West Coast Conference matchup at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

BYU has won three straight contests, and seven of the team's last eight altogether. The Cougars, who play their final game of the regular season against San Diego, find themselves tied with San Francisco for second in the WCC at 12-5. BYU defeated Portland, 89-72, in the team's most recent outing last Saturday.

San Diego has won three games in a row immediately following a four-game skid. The Toreros took down 25th-ranked Gonzaga at home last Sunday, 69-66, to improve to 7-10 in conference play on the year.

BYU leads the brief all-time series against San Diego, 7-2. The two teams met in Provo back on Jan. 4 of this year, which saw the Cougars defeat the Toreros, 87-53.

BYU proved itself to be the dominant team against Portland last Saturday, jumping out to a 46-33 lead at the end of the first half and continuing to pile on to that advantage in the second half for the ultimate 17-point win. Matt Carlino registered a team-high 30 points and four steals in the game for BYU. Anson Winder scored 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor, and Tyler Haws netted 15 points with five assists. Kyle Collinsworth grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds and dished out seven assists in the victory.

Haws has been a scoring machine for the Cougars this season, averaging 23.3 ppg with a 47.5 percent shooting mark, including 43.4 percent from 3-point range. Carlino is second in scoring with a 14.1 ppg average, also dishing out 136 assists on the year, which is second behind Collinsworth's 148 assists. Collinsworth is second on the team in rebounding with 8.2 rpg, and adds 13.7 ppg for BYU. Eric Mika rounds out the double-digit scorers for the team, netting 12.2 ppg.

San Diego fell behind nationally ranked Gonzaga early, trailing 10-2 in the first few minutes. But the Toreros battled back and took a slight advantage as the teams broke for the half, 36-34. In the second half, a back-and-forth battled ensued, but San Diego managed to gain a point to its lead and hold off the Bulldogs down the stretch for the upset win. Johnny Dee scored 16 points to pace the Toreros, and Duda Sanadze chipped in 15 points with five rebounds. San Diego shot 40.4 percent from the field in the contest.

Dee tops the Toreros in scoring this season with a 17 ppg average through 30 games played, hitting 44 percent of his overall shots. Sanadze has proven to be a key component to the team this year as well, averaging 13.3 ppg. Dennis Kramer is third on the team in scoring with 11.5 ppg and a team-leading 6.7 rpg. Christopher Anderson has registered a team-high 177 assists and 53 steals, and Jito Kok tops the squad with 53 blocked shots.

San Diego was able to use its homecourt momentum to power past Gonzaga, but whether the Toreros can knock off two powers in a row will be the question. The Cougars are extremely dangerous with a high-octane offense and solid big man play defensively.
