Rochester, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - A short floater in the lane by AJ Pacher with 1.6 seconds remaining pushed the Wright State Raiders to a thrilling 72-71 win over the Oakland Golden Grizzlies in Horizon League action at the Athletics Center O'rena.
Pacher finished the afternoon with a double-double consisting of 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Raiders (15-13, 7-6 HL) as they won for the second time in the last three outings. Cole Darling scored a game-high 21 points for the visitors, adding six boards and four assists, while Jerran Young accounted for 11 points and seven rebounds before fouling out.
The Golden Grizzlies (10-18, 5-8) were paced by Duke Mondy who filled his stat line with 20 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, followed by Ralph Hill and Kahlil Felder with 15 and 14 points, respectively, as the squad bowed for the fourth time in the last five contests.
A close game throughout the first half, Oakland was able to claim a 34-28 advantage at the break after shooting just 40.0 percent from the floor and 2- of-7 beyond the arc.
In the second half the lead for the hosts grew to 13 with under 13 minutes remaining, but the Raiders refused to go away quietly and created an exciting final few minutes at the O'Rena.
With 21.0 seconds remaining Darling put the Raiders on top, 70-69, as he knocked down a pair of free throws, but just eight seconds later Mondy did the same for Oakland at the stripe, giving the hosts the edge once more.
After Pacher's conversion, Oakland had one last chance to win the game, but the team struggled to get the ball inbounds and had to settle for an awkward attempt from beyond half court that failed to convert.
Wright State managed to pull out the win despite shooting only 17-of-28 at the charity stripe and suffering 19 turnovers.
