Newark, DE (SportsNetwork.com) - Davon Usher scored the final four points of the contest for Delaware as the Blue Hens stormed back to capture a 67-64 win over the College of Charleston in Colonial Athletic Association at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Usher scored a career-high 42 points, shooting 14-of-20 from the floor and 11- of-14 at the free-throw line for the Blue Hens (18-7, 10-0 CAA) as they continued their dominance in league play and won their 12th game in a row overall. Devon Saddler pitched in with 17 points, although he shot just 6- of-17 from the field, while the rest of the Delaware roster combined to contribute a mere eight points.
The Cougars (12-12, 4-5), who led by as many as 20 points in the second half, were led by Anthony Stitt and Adjehi Baru with 11 points each, the latter also pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds. David Wishon accounted for 10 points in 15 minutes off the bench.
Charleston knocked down 55.0 percent from the floor in the first half, compared to 45.5 percent for a Delaware squad that missed all six chances beyond the arc, en route to a 28-22 margin at the break.
The visitors opened the second half on a 10-2 run and appeared ready to run away with the victory, but the Blue Hens had other plans. Trailing by five with under two minutes remaining, Delaware closed out the meeting on an 8-0 run, with Usher converting a layup with 31 seconds to play to push the home team in front by a score of 65-64. Usher later added a pair of free throws to give the Hens some breathing room.
The Cougars finished the night with a staggering 26 turnovers, compared to 23 field goals. With those miscues, the Blue Hens generated 23 points.
Usher's scoring output set a new Bob Carpenter Center record and was the fourth-highest total in program history, the most since Dave Sysko posted 45 points versus Lafayette in 1964.
