Hempstead, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Zeke Upshaw led the way with 22 points as the Hofstra Pride defeated the College of Charleston Cougars, 75-71, in Colonial Athletic Association action at the Mack Sports Complex.
Stephen Nwaukoni recorded a double-double for the Pride (5-11, 1-1 CAA) with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Jordan Allen and Jamall Robinson chipped in 12 points apiece while Dion Nesmith tallied 10 points.
Nori Johnson came off the bench to pace Charleston (9-8, 1-1) to knock down 7- of-11 attempts from beyond the arc en route to a game-high 25 points. Anthony Stitt registered a double-double with 17 points and 11 boards while Adjehi Baru scored 13 points.
The Cougars took a 38-34 lead into the break after they shot 39.3 percent from the field and converted only 11-of-21 attempts at the free-throw line in the opening period. Hofstra was limited to just 30.4 percent shooting from the floor, but knocked down 17-of-19 tries at the charity stripe before the break to stay within striking distance.
The Pride improved to sink 57.1 percent of their field goal attempts in the second half. Charleston went 6-of-13 from 3-point range after the break, however it also missed three of its six tries at the free-throw line in the second stanza.
Hofstra enjoyed a 38-30 edge in total rebounds and outscored Charleston, 22-16, in the paint to notch its first win in league play of the campaign.
