Mount Pleasant, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Paul Egwuonwu registered a double- double with 13 points and 13 boards as the Montana State Bobcats defeated the Central Michigan Chippewas, 59-54, in the CMU Tournament at McGuirk Arena.
Terrell Brown came off the bench for Montana State (1-3) to pour in 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor. Eric Norman grabbed seven boards to help the Bobcats collect their first win of the 2013-14 season.
Braylon Rayson paced CMU (2-3) with 15 points. John Simons pulled down eight rebounds in the loss.
The Chippewas took a commanding, 29-18, lead into the intermission after shooting 40.9 percent from the field including a 5-of-16 clip from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes. MSU fell behind after it was limited to 32 percent shooting from the floor with only one make on eight attempts from behind the 3-point line in the first half.
CMU cooled off to sink only 28.6 percent of its field goal attempts including only 1-of-13 from 3-point range in the second stanza. The Bobcats opened up the second half on a 17-4 run to take the lead and converted 9-of-10 attempts at the free-throw line in the final minute to hang on for the decision.
MSU enjoyed a 40-33 edge in the rebounding battle.
