New Rochelle, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Andell Cumberbatch had 25 points and Dion Wright scored 22 off the bench, as St. Bonaventure notched a 102-89 win over the Iona Gaels in a non-conference tilt at the Hynes Center.
Charlon Kloof and Jordan Gathers netted 17 points apiece for the Bonnies (7-3), while Marquise Simmons recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Sean Armand posted a game-high 30 points for the Gaels (5-3), who lost for the first time in their last five outings. A.J. English was next in line with 19 points, followed by David Laury with 12, and Tre Bowman with 11.
Iona never led in this contest. The Bonnies raced out to a 54-40 halftime lead behind a 54.1-percent shooting effort from the floor in the first half, including 5-of-10 accuracy from beyond the arc.
The Bonnies shot at a 55.2-percent clip in the second stanza and led by as many as 23 with just under 11 minutes to play. The Gaels went on a 14-2 spurt to make it an 11-point game with eight minutes remaining, but they were unable to trim the margin to single digits the rest of the way.
St. Bonaventure held a huge 44-28 rebounding advantage for the game, which included a 17-8 edge on the offensive glass. The Bonnies turned that into a 19-5 advantage in second-chance points.
