NCAA Game Summary - Virginia Commonwealth at Richmond

(Thursday, March 6th)

Final Score: Virginia Commonwealth 56, Richmond 50

Richmond, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Treveon Graham scored 18 points and collected 10 rebounds as the Virginia Commonwealth Rams pulled out a 56-50 victory over the Richmond Spiders in an Atlantic 10 contest at the Robins Center.

Rob Brandenberg added 11 points for VCU (23-7, 11-4 A-10), which has won three straight. Briante Weber tallied four steals, pushing his season total to 109 and giving him the single-season record in the A-10.

Kendall Anthony finished with a game-high 20 points for Richmond (18-12, 8-7), which is slipping from NCAA Tournament contention with losses in four of its last five. Trey Davis and Terry Allen each had double-digit rebound totals with 12 and 10, respectively.

Richmond clawed its way to a 26-22 lead at halftime. The Spiders hit on 40 percent from the floor in the first half, which was just a bit better than the 36.4 percent effort from the Rams.

VCU controlled the second half, when it connected on 40 percent from the floor, including 5-of-11 from 3-point range, and limited the Spiders to 25 percent shooting. The key stretch came midway through the period when the Rams ripped off an 18-3 run to turn an 11-point deficit into a four-point lead, one they would never relinquish.

Despite the tight final score, the game featured only two ties and a single lead change.
