Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Titus Rubles tallied 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Cincinnati Bearcats to a lopsided 77-49 victory over the Appalachian State Mountaineers in a non-conference tilt at Fifth Third Arena.
Cincinnati (3-0) had five players score in double digits en-route to its third straight win to start the season. Rubles shot 60 percent from the field. Troy Caupain had 13 points while Sean Kilpatrick scored 12. Shaquille Thomas and Jermaine Sanders contributed 10 points apiece. Justin Jackson made an impact on the defensive end with four blocked shots.
The Mountaineers (0-3) continue to start slow as they lost their third straight game. Tevin Baskin and Mike Kobani each had 11 points. Mike Neal was limited to just one make on 13 attempts including an 0-of-4 clip from beyond the arc.
Cincinnati took a 40-21 lead into halftime after it shot 50 percent from the field and went 2-of-5 from 3-point range in the opening 20 minutes. Appalachian State fell behind as it converted only 23.1 percent of its attempts from the floor in the first half.
The Mountaineers slightly improved after the break as they shot 38.5 percent from the field and went 2-of-9 from 3-point range. The Bearcats extended their advantage by knocking down 42.9 percent of their field goal tries including 2- of-4 from beyond the arc in the second stanza.
Cincinnati dominated in the paint by outscoring the Mountaineers, 48-30, while also enjoying a 47-35 edge in the rebounding battle.
