Champaign, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Joseph Bertrand finished with a double- double and five players scored in double figures for Illinois as the Fighting Illini defeated the Jacksonville State Gamecocks, 86-62, in a non- league bout at the State Farm Center.
Bertrand had 20 points and 10 rebounds for Illinois (2-0). Tracy Abrams and Rayvonte Rice each added 13 points while Nnanna Egwu had 10 points and seven rebounds and Jaylon Tate scored 10 points and handed out eight assists.
Brian Williams scored 12 points on 5-of-15 shooting and D.J. Felder pulled in 10 rebounds for Jacksonville State (0-2).
Illinois jumped out to a 40-27 lead at halftime by connecting on 58.3 percent of its shots in the first 20 minutes, while holding Jacksonville State to just eight field goals.
After the break the Illini cooled to 48.6 percent shooting but they also hit all four of their 3-pointers in the game during the second half to pull even further ahead.
Jacksonville State had a 44-37 advantage on the boards but shot at just a 32.9 percent clip in the game overall. Illinois outscored the Gamecocks in the paint (40-28) and off turnovers (11-3).
