Knoxville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Antwan Space drained a 3-pointer with just 4.4 seconds remaining to give the Texas A&M Aggies a 57-56 victory over the Tennessee Volunteers in an SEC showdown at Thompson-Boling Arena.
For the Aggies (11-4, 2-0 SEC), Jamal Jones led the way with 23 points, while Alex Caruso scored 12 and dished out eight assists.
Antonio Barton led the Volunteers (10-5, 1-1) with 12 points, Josh Richardson finished with 11 points and Jeronne Maymon pulled down 15 rebounds.
Tennessee shot 41.7 percent from the field in the first half, including 4- of-10 from 3-point range, as the Vols led big at halftime, 32-18. They held Texas A&M to just 25 percent shooting from the field, though the Aggies did make 2-of-5 from beyond the arc.
After the break, the Aggies got hot from the floor, making 53.8 percent of their field goal tries and 6-of-10 from 3-point distance. Tennessee shot 40 percent from the field in the second, missing all but one of its seven 3-point tries. A pair of free-throws by Barton gave the Vols a four-point lead at 56-52 with 37 seconds to play. After Caruso scored on a layup, the Aggies forced a turnover, followed by Caruso and Maymon each missing a pair of free- throws, which then set the stage for Space's game-winner.
Texas A&M forced 16 Tennessee turnovers and converted them into 20 points, while turning the ball over just eight times itself. The Vols outrebounded the Aggies 36-27.
