Wilmington, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Richard Ross notched a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Old Dominion Monarchs past the UNC- Wilmington Seahawks, 69-57, at Trask Coliseum.
Ross shot 8-of-12 from the field for the Monarchs (5-7). Keenan Palmore tallied 16 points on 8-of-15 from the floor, and Jordan Baker added 10 points.
Cedrick Williams recorded a team-high 11 points and seven rebounds for the Seahawks (6-7). Luke Hager contributed 10 points and was the team's only other player in double figures.
The Seahawks shot just 30.4 percent from the field in the first half but made up for it with an 8-of-10 showing from the line. The Monarchs did slightly better at 38.7 percent from the field, but went 0-of-3 at the stripe, good for a narrow 24-22 ODU lead at the half.
ODU stepped up its offensive presence in the second half, shooting an impressive 64 percent from the floor, including 3-of-5 from long range. UNCW also improved, shooting 50 percent from the floor, but could not keep pace with its opponent, going 0-of-3 from the perimeter and 7-of-14 at the line.
ODU outscored its opponent 44-32 in the paint and 18-11 on points off turnovers to secure the win.
