Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Kevin Murphy registered a double-double with 21 points and a game-high 10 rebounds as the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles defeated the Kennesaw State Fighting Owls, 81-68, during the third round of the Las Vegas Classic at Orleans Arena.
Also scoring in double figures for the Golden Eagles (7-5) were Jud Dillard with 16 points, to go along with nine rebounds, followed by Liam McMorrow and Zach Bailey with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Zac Swansey tallied seven points and also handed out a game-high 10 assists as the team won for the fourth time in the last five outings.
The Fighting Owls (2-9) were paced by Markeith Cummings who scored a game-high 27 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the floor, but still the squad suffered a seventh straight setback. Spencer Dixon connected on 5-of-9 shots behind the three-point line as he finished with 22 points while also handing out six assists.
Both teams shot the ball very well from the field in the first half and with 62.5 percent accuracy the Golden Eagles were able to secure a 46-35 advantage at the break. Kennesaw opened the contest with 54.5 percent shooting from the floor and 6-of-10 behind the three-point line.
In the second half Tech continued to have the hot hand, making good on 52.4 percent from the floor, en route to the 13-point triumph.
Tennessee Tech dominated on the glass as they beat the Owls by a 34-20 rebounding margin.
With the victory the Golden Eagles will now take on Bethune-Cookman in the championship round on Friday, while Kennesaw State battles Texas A&M-CC.
