GAME NOTES: Louisiana will square off against Nicholls State in the final leg of the Beryl Shipley Classic.

J.P. Piper is now in his eighth year as the head coach of Nicholls State with a career record of 78-130. The Colonels 14-14 finished in 2010-2011 and is returning five-of-seven of their letter winners. Nicholls State is 1-3 after beating Houston Baptist 80-70 on Saturday.

Louisiana is 2-3 after losing for the first time at home this season to Cal State Fullerton. Bob Marlin is in his second season at Louisiana after he led the Ragin' Cajuns to a 14-15 and first place Sun Belt West Division finish last season. Marlin's career record is 241-149.

This will be the 24th meeting in team history, as ULL holds an 18-5 lead in the series. The Colonels and Cajuns haven't faced one another since December 19, 1992, a 53-52 loss in Lafayette.

Nicholls State's win over the Huskies was powered by Trevon Lewis's 8-of-9 shooting performance that netted 21 points. Dantell Thomas and Chris Talking both scored 17 in the win. The Colonels had a hot shooting night as they knocked down 53.7 percent of their field goals and 44 percent of their three point attempts. Nicholls State held Houston Baptist to 40.6 percent shooting from the field and 34.8 percent from beyond the arc.

Louisiana's 69-63 loss to Cal State Fullerton came in part due to poor shooting from the free-throw line (51.9 percent) and from three-point range (11.1 percent). Kadeem Colby led the Ragin' Cajuns with 14 points before fouling out while J.J. Thomas and Elfrid Payton contributed 13 and 11, respectively. Cal State Fullerton made 40 percent of its threes against Louisiana. The Titans also outrebounded the Ragin' Cajuns by six boards.

Louisiana beat itself in the Cal State Fullerton game by shooting poorly and turning the ball over 26 times. If the Ragin' Cajuns can fix their mistakes, they will finish the Beryl Shipley Classic with a winning record.
