Georgia Tech starts season with rout of Florida A&M
Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Iman Shumpert poured in 18 points, as the 22nd- ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets opened the 2009-10 season with a 100-59 blowout of the Florida A&M Rattlers at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.

"I thought our guys came out and played with a lot more energy tonight. Toward the end of the week we started cutting down on some things in practice to make sure the guys would be fresh coming into the game. I told the guys in the locker room if you check all your personal goals in at the door, we have the chance to have a great team," said Georgia Tech coach Paul Hewitt.
Christopher Walker ended with 15 points and five boards for the Rattlers (0-1), who went 10-21 last year. Brandon Bryant tallied 14 points for Florida A&M, which shot just 36.2 percent from the floor.

Ahead 61-30 five minutes into the second half, Georgia Tech scored 11 consecutive points to turn the tilt into a laugher. Lance Storrs drilled a trey during the spurt and made a jumper to make it 72-30 with under 13 minutes remaining.
