NCAA Game Summary - Texas-El Paso at New Mexico

Albuquerque, NM (SportsNetwork.com) - Aaron Jones rushed for 237 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winner, as the Texas-El Paso Miners escaped with a 31-24 triumph over the New Mexico Lobos at University Stadium.
Jameill Showers tallied 116 yards and a touchdown on 11-of-22 passing for UTEP (1-0). Jarrad Shaw (four receptions, 76 yards, TD) was his favorite receiver.
Cole Gautsche rushed for 184 yards and two scores and also threw for 36 yards on 3-of-5 passing for New Mexico (0-1). Teriyon Gipson tacked on 71 yards and a touchdown and Jhurell Pressley rushed for 84 yards.
Jones finished off UTEP's first drive of the game with a 12-yard touchdown run.
New Mexico evened the score with a 68-yard rushing touchdown from Gautsche midway through the first quarter.
Showers put UTEP back on top before the period was over with a 48-yard touchdown pass to Shaw.
Midway through the second quarter the Miners got a 23-yard field goal from Jay Mattox.
Jones then ripped off a 73-yard touchdown run as the Miners began to pull away before intermission.
A 13-yard rushing touchdown from Gipson and a 51-yarder from Gautsche in the third quarter helped the Lobos pick up a bit of momentum.
The Lobos eventually pulled even on a 35-yard field goal from Zack Rogers with 8:10 to play in regulation.
However, the Miners were able to escape with the victory following a three- yard touchdown run from Jones with just over two minutes to play.
The two teams combined for 740 yards rushing.
