NCAA Game Summary - Louisiana at Western Kentucky
(Tuesday, October 15th)
Final Score: Louisiana 37, Western Kentucky 20
Bowling Green, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Alonzo Harris racked up 115 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries, as the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns rallied for a 37-20 victory over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Tuesday at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium.
Terrance Broadway completed just 5-of-12 passes for 90 yards and a score, but added 40 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries for the Ragin' Cajuns (4-2, 2-0 Sun Belt), who have won four straight games.
Antonio Andrews rushed for 154 yards and a score on 28 carries for the Hilltoppers (4-3, 1-2), while Brandon Doughty completed 18-of-23 passes for 260 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions in the setback.
Western Kentucky led 10-0 midway through the second and seemed poised to increase its edge after Willie McNeal's 42-yard grab gave the Hilltoppers a 1st-and-goal from the Ragin' Cajuns' 5-yard line.
Facing 4th-and-goal from the 1-yard line four plays later, Doughty rolled right and heaved a pass toward the end zone that landed in the arms of Louisiana-Layfayette's Al Riles, who returned the pick 99 yards for a score to make it 10-7.
WKU faced another fourth down on its next touch, as Doughty hit Mitchell Henry on 4th-and-9 from the Ragin' Cajuns' 29 for what would have been enough for a first down, but Justin Anderson stripped Henry at the end of the gain and returned the fumble 45 yards to the WKU 35.
After Broadway converted a pair of third downs, Harris punched it in from a yard out to give the Ragin' Cajuns a 13-10 edge 1:32 prior to halftime.
Garrett Schwettman answered with a 28-yard field goal to send the teams into the break locked at 13-13.
The Ragin' Cajuns opened the second half with a 15-play march, but settled for a 23-yard field goal from Stephen Brauchle to make it 16-13.
Following a quick WKU punt, Harris ripped off a 19-yard run down to the goal line and Broadway punched it in from there, giving the Ragin' Cajuns a 23-13 lead with 1:21 remaining in the third quarter.
Western Kentucky turned the ball over on downs on its next touch before Anderson forced another Henry fumble later in the fourth, setting up Broadway's 24-yard scoring strike to Jacob Maxwell to make it 30-13 with 9:43 remaining in the game.
Andrews answered with a 1-yard TD surge to bring the Hilltoppers within 10, but the Ragin' Cajuns put the game away with a 10-play, 77-yard march that Harris capped with a 2-yard TD run to account for the final margin.
Early on, Doughty hooked up with Henry on a 14-yard touchdown on the game's opening drive before Schwettman's 29-yard field goal with 3:13 left in the first staked the Hilltoppers to a 10-0 advantage.
