NCAA Game Summary - UAB at Texas-San Antonio

(Saturday, October 26)

Final Score: Texas-San Antonio 52, UAB 31

San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Eric Soza threw for 235 yards and two touchdowns for the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners, who routed Conference-USA foe UAB, 52-31, for their first win at the Alamodome this season.

Soza completed 14-of-21 pass attempts, helping Texas-San Antonio (3-5, 2-2 C- USA) snap a three-game losing streak in a dominant performance. Brandon Armstrong rushed for 54 yards and a score on four carries and caught a 51-yard pass for a touchdown. David Glasco rushed for 73 yards on 11 carries.

Jonathan Perry (15-of-28, 209 yards, 2 TD) and Austin Brown (8-of-15, 108 yards) shared the workload under center for UAB (2-5, 1-2), and each was intercepted once. Jamarcus Nelson caught five passes for 101 yards and a touchdown. Jordan Howard rushed for 90 yards and a score on 12 carries. Darrin Reaves picked up a touchdown both as a rusher (12 carries, 65 yards) and receiver (four receptions, 51 yards).

UTSA scored 24 unanswered points in the first quarter in a game that had all the signs of a decisive victory early on.

The first score came just under four minutes into play on a 22-yard touchdown run by Armstrong. The Roadrunners then intercepted a Brown pass and their ensuing possession culminated in a goal-line, rushing score from Kam Jones.

Capping off a dominating first-quarter performance were two separate scoring plays inside the final 30 seconds of the period. The first came on a 30-yard field goal from Sean Ianno, the second when UAB fumbled the kickoff, which was returned 16 yards by the UTSA's Crosby Adams for a touchdown.

Kicker Ty Long finally got the Blazers on the board with a lengthy, 50-yard field goal two and a half minutes into the second quarter.

UTSA's Earon Holmes caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Soza less than three minutes later.

The Blazers made a bid to get back in the game with a 21-yard touchdown reception by Reaves from Perry, but three minutes later another Jones touchdown run, this one for 27 yards, gave the Roadrunners a convincing 38-10 lead heading into the break.

Three and a half minutes into the second half, a 10-yard touchdown run by Evans Okotcha extended the lead to 35 points for the hosts.

UAB would get a touchdown back before the end of the third though, a Howard run from a yard out.

A 51-yard touchdown pass from Soza to Armstrong three minutes into the fourth quarter was the longest scoring play of the day, increasing the UTSA lead to an overwhelming 52-17.

Two UAB touchdowns, a 28-yard Nelson reception from Perry and an 18-yard run by Reaves, proved to be too little, too late for the Blazers.
