NCAA Game Summary - Southern Mississippi at Virginia

Charlottesville, VA (Sports Network) - Austin Davis threw for 313 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles to a 30-24 victory over the Virginia Cavaliers in a non-conference tussle at Scott Stadium.
Kelvin Bolden hauled in two of those touchdowns passes and finished with 66 yards on seven receptions. Tracy Lampley collected five passes for 100 yards in the win for Southern Miss (3-1).
Michael Rocco scored a rushing touchdown for Virginia (2-2), but the quarterback also threw three interceptions in the loss. Rocco was replaced by David Watford, who finished with 81 yards and one touchdown.
The Golden Eagles struck first in this contest, as Davis and Bolden hooked up for a 32-yard scoring strike.
Virginia responded with a 14-play, 71-yard drive that was capped off with a six-yard touchdown run by Rocco. However, the Cavaliers went for the two-point conversion and came up empty.
A nine-yard touchdown scamper by Kevin Parks put the Cavaliers on top 13-7 late in the opening quarter.
The second quarter belonged to the Golden Eagles, as Davis threw two touchdown passes. The first went to Ryan Balentine for a 20-yard score and the second was hauled in by Bolden. That three-yard score gave Southern Mississippi a 21-13 lead as the two teams went into the break.
The Cavs opened the second half with a 17-play, 71-yard drive, but it resulted in only a 21-yard field goal by Robert Randolph.
Southern Miss added a field goal of its own later in the quarter, as Danny Hrapmann connected from 43 yards out.
Hrapmann pushed Southern Mississippi's lead to 27-16 early in the fourth quarter with a 35-yard boot.
The Cavs inched closer on their next drive, as David Watford found Jeremiah Mathis for a one-yard score. Watford also hit Kris Burd for the two-point conversion, cutting Virginia's deficit to 27-24.
Southern Mississippi extended its lead to 30-24 with less than two minutes remaining in regulation thanks to a 27-yard field goal by Hrapmann.
The defense for Southern Mississippi was able to keep Virginia's offense out of the endzone for the remainder of the contest.
