NCAA Game Summary - Navy at Western Kentucky

Bowling Green, KY (Sports Network) - John Howell and Alex Teich combined for 215 rushing yards as the Navy Midshipmen pounded the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, 40-14, in a non-conference game at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium.
Howell ran for 113 yards and picked up two touchdowns on just three carries for the Midshipmen (2-0). Teich ran for 102 yards on 15 carries. Kriss Proctor was 3-of-7 through the air for 100 yards and two scores.
Bobby Rainey ran for 131 yards and two touchdowns for the Hilltoppers (0-2) who have now lost 17 straight games at home, the longest such streak in the nation. Brandon Doughty was 12-of-21 by air for 102 yards. Joel German caught four balls for 45 yards.
The Midshipmen opened the scoring when John Howell raced 50 yards for a score less than two minutes into the opening quarter, but a failed PAT left the visitors with a 6-0 edge. The academy extended the lead to 13-0 when Proctor found Matt Aiken with a 44-yard scoring pass on the last play of the first quarter.
Proctor found Brandon Turner with a 27-yard scoring pass four minutes into the second period.
WKU got on the board on Rainey's 13-yard run midway through the quarter, but less than three minutes later the Midshipmen responded when Aaron Santiago's four-yard run TD run extended Navy's lead to 27-7 at the break.
Howell scored his second touchdown of the game on a 57-yard jaunt six minutes into the third quarter, but again Navy failed to convert the point after.
Rainy scored his second touchdown of the night for the Hilltoppers on a one- yard run with just under five minutes remaining in the period to make it a 33-14 game.
Navy extended its lead five minutes into the fourth period, when Tra'ves Bush picked off a Doughty pass and returned it 49 yards to the end zone.
Navy collected 410 rushing yards and 510 yards in total offense. The Midshipmen averaged eight yards per offensive snap, almost double that of WKU which produced 277 yards on 65 offensive plays.
