NCAA Game Summary - Western Kentucky at Navy

(Saturday, September 26th)

Final Score: Navy 38, Western Kentucky 22

Annapolis, MD (Sports Network) - Ricky Dobbs ran for 143 yards and four touchdowns as the Navy Midshipmen picked up a 38-22 win over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in non-conference action at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

Dobbs finished the afternoon with 29 carries as the Midshipmen (2-2) cranked out 373 yards on the ground on 64 attempts. Dobbs also completed 4-of-5 passing for 100 yards and another TD in the triumph.

The Hilltoppers (0-4) were led by Kawaun Jakes who converted 22-of-28 passing for 276 yards and two TDs, but he was also sacked twice and had a pair of picks. Jakes ran the ball 15 times as well, resulting in 44 yards and a score in the team's 12th consecutive setback, the longest losing streak in the nation at the moment.

Dobbs registered the only points of the first quarter on a 29-yard TD run. Kicking off the second-quarter scoring was Navy's Jon Teague who knocked through a 31-yard field goal.

WKU actually took the lead at 14-10 thanks to a 13-yard TD pass from Jakes to Bobby Rainey and a one-yard scoring run by Jakes with just over five minutes to play in the first half.

Navy ran off 28 unanswered points from there, beginning with a 29-yard touchdown toss from Dobbs, his first completion of the day, to Cory Finnerty to give the Midshipmen a 17-14 edge at the break.

Dobbs posted rushing touchdowns of two, one and one yards covering the third and fourth quarters, pushing the advantage to 38-14.

With 6:09 remaining in the contest Jakes led the Toppers on a nine-play, 64- yard drive that ended with an 18-yard TD pass to Derrius Brooks, but even with a successful two-point conversion Navy was left with the 16-point triumph.

The last win for Western Kentucky was a 50-9 decision over Murray State back on September 20, 2008. The last victory for the Hilltoppers versus a member of the FBS was a year earlier in a 20-17 triumph against Middle Tennessee.
