CONFERENCES COACHING CHANGES TRANSACTIONS GAMING MATCHUP CURRENT ODDS
UNLV's Hauck receives 2-year extension
Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - UNLV head football coach Bobby Hauck has agreed to a new three-year contract that will run through the 2016 season, interim athletics director Tina Kunzer-Murphy announced Wednesday.
Hauck, whose current pact was set to expire following the 2014 campaign, has the Rebels on the verge of their first bowl-game appearance since 2000. UNLV enters Saturday's regular-season finale against San Diego State with a 6-5 overall record and a 4-3 mark in Mountain West play.
The Rebels had gone just 6-32 in their first three seasons under Hauck, who took over the program following a successful seven-year run as the head coach of FCS power Montana from 2003-09.
"Bobby Hauck and his staff have been focused on building UNLV football step by step since coming to campus and this season we are seeing their hard work pay off with a trip to a bowl game on the horizon," Kunzer-Murphy said. "We are thrilled that Bobby is our coach and that he will be here for years to come to help take Rebel football to a new level."
Hauck's deal still awaits approval from the university's board of regents, with financial terms to be released once that approval has been reached.
"As I've said many times, my family and I are extremely happy at UNLV and love living in Las Vegas," Hauck said. "I am excited to tell our team and staff that we can now focus on continuing to build this football program and pursuing the ultimate goal of bringing a Mountain West Championship to UNLV."
