Chestnut Hill, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Boston College Eagles were led by Andre Williams' career-high 339 rushing yards as they defeated the NC State Wolfpack, 38-21, at Alumni Stadium in an ACC matchup.
Williams' rushing total was the highest in an FBS game this season and set an ACC record. Chase Rettig threw for 53 yards and completed 8-of-15 passes for the Eagles (6-4, 3-3 ACC), who became bowl eligible for the first time since 2010. Williams ran the ball 42 times and had two scores.
The Wolfpack's (3-7, 0-7) disappointing season continued in the setback. Pete Thomas had 207 yards and a touchdown on 22-of-33 passing. Shadrach Thornton had 56 rushing yards on 11 carries. Jumichael Ramos led all receivers with 109 yards and a touchdown on five catches.
Nate Freese made a 25-yard field goal to put the Eagles up 3-0 early. Boston College added to their lead following a Williams 17-yard rush for a touchdown with 15 seconds left in the first quarter.
Thomas tossed a nine-yard touchdown pass to Rashard Smith to get the Wolfpack on the board midway through the second, although the Eagles responded a few minutes later when Myles Willis ran in a 19-yard touchdown with 4:46 left in the half.
Boston College stuck fist in the second half. Freese had a 39-yard field goal to put the Eagles up, 20-7.
Smith connected with Quintin Payton on a 49-yard touchdown pass to make the score 20-14 with 9:05 remaining.
After a 65-yard run by Williams, he fumbled at the one-yard line, but the loose ball was picked up his teammate Alex Amidon and taken in for the touchdown. Chase Rettig ran in a two-point conversion to put Boston College up, 28-14.
A 41-yard field goal by Freese extended Boston College's lead late.
NC State scored on a 52-yard touchdown pass from Garrett Leatham to Ramos with under two minutes to play, but Boston College answered right back with a 34- yard touchdown rush by Williams.
NC State has yet to win an ACC matchup under first-year coach Dave Doeren.
