Fordham stuns Temple on last-second touchdown
Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Fordham University football team stunned FBS Temple Saturday with a last-second touchdown and extra point that lifted the Rams over the Owls, 30-29.
With four seconds remaining, quarterback Michael Nebrich found receiver Sam Ajala for a 29-yard touchdown to tie the game, and Michael Marando's PAT gave Fordham the 30-29 advantage.
The Rams improved to 3-0 for the first time since the 1988 season, and it's the first time the program has done so as a member of the FCS.
It also was Fordham's first win over an FBS opponent since it reinstated football in 1970 and the first time a Patriot League member has defeated an FBS opponent since Colgate upset Buffalo in the 2003 season.
Senior running back Carlton Koonce rushed 27 times for 168 yards and a touchdown, while Nebrich completed 23-of-36 pass attempts for 320 yards and two touchdowns.
The game-winning touchdown was upheld after the referees ruled Ajala was forced out of bounds and legally re-entered the field.
Fordham outgained Temple in total yards, 520 to 385, and didn't commit a turnover while the Owls had two.
