GAME NOTES: The Southern University Jaguars continue their run towards the Southwestern Athletic Conference title, as they play host to the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils on Monday evening at the F.G. Clark Activity Center.

The Jaguars had a five-game win streak come to a close with Saturday's 64-58 home loss to Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Despite the loss, Southern remains in the top spot in the SWAC standings at 10-2.

The Delta Devils are much further down the conference ladder at just 3-8. MVSU comes into this contest with a three-game losing streak in tow, including Saturday's 67-63 loss to Alcorn State.

The Jaguars might be closing in on the league title, but it is the Delta Devils seeking the regular-season sweep after earning a 72-64 victory on Jan. 22.

Julius Francis recorded his first-ever double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, but it wasn't enough in the loss to Alcorn State. DeAngelo Priar and Anthony McDonald also finished with 11 points apiece, but the Braves shot a scorching .511 from the floor and outscored MVSU 16-9 at the free-throw line.

The Delta Devils are nine games under .500 primarily because they are saddled with an ugly -9.0 scoring margin. Opponents have had their way with MVSU, shooting .510 from the field overall en route to 81.6 ppg. Meanwhile Mississippi Valley is averaging 72.6 ppg. McDonald leads the way offensively with 12.5 ppg. James Currington and Priar follow with 10.7 and 10.6 ppg, respectively.

Southern struggled to find its range in the recent loss to Arkansas Pine- Bluff, converting just .360 from the floor, weighed down by a 6-of-21 effort from behind the arc (.286). Malcolm Miller led the team with 11 points in defeat. Yondarius Johnson and Trelun Banks added 10 points each.

The Jaguars have enjoyed solid scoring depth this season. Calvin Godfrey headlines the team with his play in the frontcourt, leading the team in both scoring (13.5 ppg) and rebounding (8.7 rpg). Miller (11.4 ppg) is next in line in the scoring column, followed by Tre Lynch (10.5 ppg) and Johnson (10.1 ppg).

The Jaguars have their sights set on the conference crown and at home, should be able to avenge their earlier loss to the Delta Devils.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Southern 71, Mississippi Valley State 63
