GAME NOTES: The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs attempt to keep pace atop the Conference-USA standings when they host the North Texas Mean Green at the Thomas Assembly Center.
The Bulldogs have won consecutive games and are 7-2 in the conference, just one-half game behind leader UTEP entering today's action.
Most recently, LaTech rallied to beat Tulsa, 66-61, on Thursday night. Trailing 50-41 with just over six minutes left, the Bulldogs went on a 23-7 run to secure the game.
Kenyon McNeail scored 11 of his 13 points during the surge and his driving layup with 2:52 to go gave LaTech the lead for good.
Jaron Johnson ended with a career-tying 18 points for LaTech, which has won four of its last five and 11 of its last 13 games.
Still without leading scorer Raheem Appleby (ankle), who is expected to be out until at least March, the Bulldogs are cruising. Despite missing Appleby's 16-plus ppg, they have won 10 straight at home to improve to 10-1 at the Thomas Assembly Center this season.
Alex Hamilton is leading the scoring with Appleby out, averaging 15.1 ppg for LaTech, which averages 84 ppg as a team on 46 percent shooting.
North Texas, meanwhile, comes into this contest with a three-game losing streak after falling to Rice on Thursday night, 75-70.
Alzee Williams scored 18 points for the Mean Green, who have lost six of eight and fell to just 2-6 in conference play. Chris Jones tallied 12 points and six assists, and Colin Voss finished with a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.
This wraps ups a three-game road trip for the Mean Green, who are led in scoring by Jordan Williams' 12.5 ppg. So far this season, the team is just 3-5 in true road games.
This is the first meeting between these two schools as members of C-USA. The last time they met was in the 2000-01 season when LaTech came away an 87-62 win - its eighth straight victory against the Mean Green.
Although they haven't played each other in a long time, don't expect this result to be any different. LaTech enters the game playing well on both ends and North Texas continues to struggle.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Louisiana Tech 78, North Texas 62
