(Thursday, February 13th)
Final Score: Northern Colorado 89, Montana 86 (OT)
Greeley, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Tate Unruh scored five of his eight points in overtime as the Northern Colorado Bears claimed a thrilling 89-86 win over the Montana Grizzlies in Big Sky Conference play at Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion.
Leading the way on offense for the Bears (14-8, 8-5 Big Sky), as they snapped a four-game slide, was Tevin Svihovec with 21 points, followed by Derrick Barden with a strong overall effort that included 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the hosts. Tim Huskisson came off the bench to offer up 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field, followed by Jordan Wilson with 11 and four assists.
The Grizzlies (12-10, 7-6) were led by Kareem Jamar and his 21 points, adding eight boards and five assists in 33 minutes of action. Keron DeShields responded with 20 points, Jordan Gregory 14 and reserve Mike Weisner 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting beyond the arc.
Both teams shot the ball around 48 percent from the floor in the first half, and while UNC also connected on 15-of-17 at the free-throw line in the frame, the Bears were trailing by two at the break, 39-37.
A hectic second half saw the hosts miss all four opportunities at the charity stripe, but counter with 65.5 percent from the field, which was enough to get the meeting into overtime knotted at 77-77.
In the extra session Unruh asserted himself and helped the Bears to knock down 4-of-5 shots from the floor and 3-of-4 at the stripe to secure the win.
Montana converted all but two of 24 attempts at the free-throw line and outscored UNC beyond the arc, 30-15, but that still wasn't enough to get the visitors into the win column.
