Muncie, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Aaric Armstead scored 14 points, helping the Northern Illinois Huskies edge out the Ball State Cardinals in overtime, 67-65, at Worthen Arena in Mid-American Conference play.
Jordan Threloff contributed 13 points for the Huskies (9-11, 3-5 MAC), who have won in back-to-back games. Travon Baker helped with eight points and six assists.
Chris Bond tallied 16 points to lead the Cardinals (4-15, 1-7), who dropped their third consecutive game. Jesse Berry and Zavier Turner added 13 and 11 points, respectively. Majok Majok grabbed 11 rebounds and posted nine points before fouling out.
The Huskies struggled in the opening half, as they shot just 28.6 percent from the field. At the other end, the Cardinals converted 44 percent, leading by 15 with 4:25 left in the half. They went into halftime up 30-22.
The Huskies improved to 48 percent from the floor and the Cardinals declined to 36 percent after the break. A Baker 3-pointer with nine seconds left in regulation tied the game at 60-60, sending the meeting to overtime.
In the extra session a Baker free throw with 17 seconds left put the Huskies up by two, and at the other end Bond missed a layup which could have tied the game as the Cardinals fell.
NIU outscored the host 23-8 in points off turnovers and came back to win despite leading by no more than four points.
