Boise, ID (SportsNetwork.com) - Derrick Marks made two free throws with 14 seconds remaining to give his Boise State Broncos a 71-70 victory over the New Mexico Lobos in a Mountain West Conference tilt at Taco Bell Arena.
Marks finished the game with 11 points and eight assists. Anthony Drmic netted 18 points to pace Boise State (16-9, 6-6 MW), and Thomas Bropleh chipped in 14 points off the bench. Ryan Watkins notched a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the win, which ended a three-game losing streak for the Broncos.
Kendall Williams tallied 22 points to lead all scorers for New Mexico (18-5, 9-2), hitting 7-of-14 from the floor. Cameron Bairstow scored 20 points, and Alex Kirk narrowly missed out on a double-double with 13 points and nine boards. The loss ends a six-game win streak for the Lobos.
New Mexico shot 56 percent from the floor in the first half and hit 9-of-10 from the free-throw line, and took a 42-35 lead into the break. Boise State shot just 37.9 percent in the frame, but hit 6-of-14 from 3-point range.
The Broncos improved to 41.4 percent in the second half, while New Mexico dropped its percentage down to 44.4. Boise State made four more shots in the period, and hit clutch free throws with under 20 seconds left to play to earn the win.
Boise State held the edge in points in the paint, 22-16, and in bench points, 24-2. The Broncos also outrebounded the Lobos, 35-25. New Mexico had the advantage from the free-throw line, 20-14.
