Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Javon McCrea scored a game-high 26 points, leading four starters in double figures, as the Buffalo Bulls stunned the Akron Zips, 81-67, in a Mid-American Conference battle at Alumni Arena.
McCrea, who shot 13-of-18 from the floor, added six rebound, four blocked shots and three steals for the Bulls (12-17, 7-7 MAC) as they snapped their own two-game slide and also halted Akron's 19-game win streak which had been the longest in the nation entering the weekend.
Also scoring in double figures for the hosts were Jarryn Skeete with 18 points, Will Regan 16 and Tony Watson 13 points to go along with six assists in the triumph.
The Zips (23-5, 13-1) were led by Zeke Marshall with 17 points, six boards, five blocks and three steals in the setback, the first since the team bowed to Detroit (80-73) back on Dec. 15. Demetrius Treadwell and Alex Abreu chipped in 14 points apiece.
Akron grabbed an early two-point lead in the first half of the meeting, but the visitors shot only 1-of-6 behind the 3-point line and 43.8 percent from the floor over the first 20 minutes of action. The Bulls, on the other hand, connected on half of their 14 attempts from long range and 52.0 percent from the field overall in order to post a 37-32 lead at the break.
In the second half Buffalo again shot the ball well at a 60-percent clip, leading to the convincing 14-point win.
With the loss by Akron, the longest win streak in the nation now belongs to 25th-ranked Louisiana Tech (17 straight) which was going up against San Jose State in Ruston on Saturday night.
