Stillwater, OK (Sports Network) - Phil Forte poured in a career-high 26 points, as the Oklahoma State Cowboys cruised to an 80-66 win over the West Virginia Mountaineers in a Big 12 Conference matchup at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Forte came off the bench to knock down 6-of-11 3-pointers, while Markel Brown shot 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and finished with 24 points for the Cowboys (13-5, 3-3 Big 12), who improved to 10-1 at home this season. Marcus Smart scored 13 points but also committed seven turnovers, and Philip Jurick contributed 12 rebounds and eight points in the victory.
Eron Harris led the Mountaineers (9-10, 2-4) with 17 points. Deniz Kilicli added 12 points, and Aaric Murray recorded a double-double off the bench with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
A layup by Kilicli gave WVU a 24-11 lead with 5:32 to play until halftime. However, the Cowboys closed out the frame with a huge 19-3 run to take a 30-27 lead into the break.
OSU opened the second stanza with an 11-4 spurt and stretched its lead to as many as 19 with 5:29 to play. The Mountaineers never got closer than 11 the rest of the way, as OSU shot 50 percent from the floor, made 6-of-11 3- pointers and 14-of-17 free throws over the final 20 minutes.
The Cowboys were simply dialed in offensively as they finished the game 10- of-19 from long range and 20-of-25 at the charity stripe, with Forte and Brown inflicting most of the damage. Oklahoma State also won the rebounding battle, 34-28.
