No. 14 Oregon takes care of North Dakota
Eugene, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - Joseph Young scored 23 points to lead No. 14 Oregon to a 91-76 victory over North Dakota on Saturday in the Global Sports Hardwood Challenge.
Richard Amardi scored 15 points with eight rebounds, Mike Moser had 13 points and 15 rebounds and Elgin Cook scored 10 and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Ducks (5-0), who will play Cal Poly on Sunday. Jason Calliste had 15 points in the win.
Troy Huff scored a game-high 25 points and had nine rebounds, Aaron Anderson had 22 points and Jaron Nash chipped in 12 points for North Dakota (2-3), which will face Pacific on Sunday.
North Dakota had a 5-2 lead before Oregon fired back with an 18-2 run, which started with a 3-point play by Young, to make the score 20-7 with 11:11 to play in the first half.
Oregon maintained the lead for the rest of the game after that run. The Ducks pushed their lead to 19 points with 1:32 to go in the first half.
North Dakota started the second half by two straight baskets to draw within 13 points, but Oregon surged back to make the lead 20 with 14:30 left to play.
North Dakota wouldn't go away and fought back to a 13-point deficit after an Anderson 3-pointer with 11:03 to play.
North Dakota came within 11 with just 2:02 left to play but it was too little too late as Oregon held on for the win.
The Ducks outrebounded North Dakota 44-28 ... Oregon shot 58.9 percent from the field while North Dakota shot 40.8 percent ... Oregon turned the ball over 10 more times than North Dakota (20-10).
