Elon to retire Scott Riddle's No. 16 jersey
Elon, NC (Sports Network) - Elon will honor its all-time leading passer Saturday, when Scott Riddle's No. 16 jersey will be retired prior to kick-off of the Phoenix's match up with Concord.
Riddle, who played at Elon from 2007-10, graduated as the Southern Conference's career record holder for passing yards (13,264) and is the only player in conference history to lead the league in passing for four consecutive seasons.
It will be the fifth time in program history Elon has retired a number, as Riddle joins Terrell Hudgins (19), Willie Tart (25), Bobby Hedrick (44) and Richard McGeorge (85).
"This honor means a great deal to me," said Riddle. "With the long tradition of football, 90 years now, at Elon, being able to be one of the five so far to have their jersey retired is very special. I am honored to have had the opportunity to play at Elon. Without the people that I've had the chance to play with, this would never have been possible."
Elon is currently 0-1, losing to Vanderbilt, 45-14, to open the season.
